edif2sr with "-n truncate" option is supposed to truncate the _<digits>.
I believe, however, the code has a bug. It only truncates single digit.
Two other options have been used at CEBAF to handle this problem:
1. Using the renaming tool, "sr2sf" developed at CEBAF.
ftp.cebaf.gov:/pub/epics/capfastTools/
ftp.cebaf.gov:/pub/epics/doc/capfastTools/
2. Write a little script using sed & awk to parse the short form.
