FYI -- this was in a note that I got from Motorola recently:

1. AUTO SCON Problems on MVME160x, MVME177, and MVME162

	The MVME1600, MVME177, and MVME152-5xx VMEmodules have jumpers
	to enable the Automatic System Controller (AUTO SCON) feature.
	This feature is *NOT* functioning properly and, until further
	notice, should not be used.  The boards should be jumpered
	for either SYSTEM CONTROLLER or NOT SYSTEM CONTROLLER depending
	on the VME chassis configuration.
