I am currently reviewing and reworking the et_wish library (the
channel access extension to tcl/tk). It will be renamed tclCa.
I am taking Bob Daly's substantial work in this area, and making
another pass at it, with his blessing.
Now would be a good time to send your suggestions to me for
improvements. Thus far, I have been able to make quite a few
modifications without affecting the command set. I hope to
continue this way, only adding new command(s) and/or options.
Backwards (downwards) compatibility will be maintained in most
cases.
The following changes have been made so far:
ANSI-fied, reformatted, and restructured code (no effect on function, other
than readability).
Many small changes (removing unneeded indirection/malloc's etc...)
Changed how channel access is used in a number of places to guarantee
polling, and not fixed time servicing.
Completely changed internal handling of tcl<-->ca data type conversions.
The closest tcl type to the given native ca type is now used. This
collapses much code, permits proper use of enum types, and allows
proper use of integer data.
The following changes are in the works:
Add a "pv unlink" command, and provide connection up/down tcl script
callback capability. Repair some behavior with existing link command.
Change or add to "pv info" command, so that true control limits can
be retrieved (not just HOPR, LOPR).
