We are using serial ports on the MVME167 to control LeCroy 1454 High
Voltage mainframes. We are not using a standard EPICS driver,
but we do have VxWorks tasks that act as the low-level support for the
interaction between the ioc and the device. We then use SNL programs
to communicate between the low-level driver and a database of place-
holder records. We have discussed a "generic asynchronous driver",
and I have seen references to it on this forum, but serial devices
are not necessarily well-behaved, so one would have to believe that
even with a driver, extensive customization would be required.
