My experience is that these sorts of problems occur, depending on the
version of Motif used. There are 20 or more versions of Motif for Linux. I
believe RedHat 7.2 comes with LessTif 1.2 as standard, whereas OpenMotif was
standard with 7.1.
MEDM appears to work best when built with OpenMotif 2.1 from the Open
Group. (I haven't tested 2.2.) This version works better than the
OpenMotif version that came with RedHat 7.1. Going down the scale, there
are problems like yours when built with LessTif 2.0 and even more when built
with LessTif 1.2. I have worked around some of them but not all.
I notice you said it didn't depend on where it was built. It is,
however, important that the shared libraries match the build libraries,
which may not be the case if different versions of Motif are installed on
the two machines. You can use ldd to determine the shared libraries used.
In any event I would try to use the OpenMotif 2.1 version. The kind of
problem you describe is most likely in the Motif code. MEDM is well tested
and usually works properly. It is difficult to fix it when the problems are
in Motif.
