The reason I went down this path is that I can't figure out how to incorporate the libSymb.a file into an R3.13 build.
For 3.14.3 the old config as well as the configure rules are still supported but the old config rules only work for vxWorks IOCs. Starting with 3.15, and perhaps sooner, the old config rules will no longer be supported. One of my tests for 3.14 is for a test stand that has many of the VME devices supported in the 3.13 releases. I unbundled the hardware support from base and until recently I built the support with the old config rules. This made the application more difficult to understand because it was a strange combination of old and new rules. Starting with 3.14.3 I am building all the hardware support using the latest 3.14.3 build rules. I am responsible for the allenBradley 6008 scanner based support. I must support it on both 3.13 and 3.14. In the CVS repository I created a branch for the 3.13 version and maintain the 3.14 version on the main branch. This is easier than trying to maintain the 3.13 and 3.14 versions in the same tree like I did previously. Bottom line. Don't build with a combination of 3.13 and 3.15 components. It will cause more problems then it solves. Marty Kraimer
