Oh you are right! I guess in the case of the calc record processing the
result would be assigned to a double wouldn't it?

Isn't there a mistake in the test you give below? From my experience
the
fault only shows up if you assign the result of the comparison to a
double,
not to an int. I therefore think the test should be:
double stack[]={0.0,1.0};
double * pStack=&stack[0];
double i=(*pStack==*(pStack+1));
