For what it's worth, the matlab channel access interface
that we use at the SNS, some history of which is on
http://ics-web1.sns.ornl.gov/mca.html
doesn't seem to have _that_ problem.
If you're interested, I can email you a snapshot of the current sources
from our CVS repository. I think the tgz on the web page is quite old.
I cannot, however, offer any more assistance with it.
