To all our colleagues in the EPICS Community,
This
afternoon at 2:09pm EDT first beam was delivered to the SNS Target. It took
about a dozen single shot minipulses to see the first scintillations on a view
screen mounted on the target – 5X10e10 protons/pulse. By now –
three quarters of an hour later – we are at ten times that intensity.
If all goes well we expect to reach our “project complete”
milestone over the weekend.
Have
a look at http://www.sns.gov/diagnostics/channel13/Ch4.htm
The
control system of course made it possible and brought the good news to the crowd
in the control room. EPICS triumphs again!! Thanks to all our
colleagues in the EPICS community who offered advice when we needed it and helped
us solve problems when our backs were to the wall. Thanks especially to
our partners and collaborators at Berkeley, Argonne, Los Alamos, Brookhaven and
Jefferson Lab.
This
is a success for the whole community. If you listen very closely, you may
just barely hear the sound of champagne bubbles bursting somewhere in East
Tennessee.
Thanks
again to all,
Dave
