For diamond beamlines we autogenerate lots of our screens using a series
of python scripts, but I have found that automatically generating
screens from database files doesn't produce useful results. I have a
script that you may find useful, it creates edm screens in a "grid"
layout which we use for generating pages of temperature values and water
flow sensor statuses. Unfortunately, it is very much a work in progress,
so there is no documentation and comments are a little patchy, but
you're welcome to have a look and see if it's useful.

Hi folks,

Has anyone already written a program that will, given an EPICS database
.db file,
  generate a screen definition file for one of the more recent EPICS
display managers?  We are installing new controls at the ALS this
autumn, meaning lots of new databases for which instant screens would be
most useful.

Before I write such a utility myself, I thought I'd check to see if
anyone else has done one.
