Subject: Tech-talk mailing list administration has switched to Mailman

As of the time of this message, the tech-talk mailing list is now being run by the GNU Mailman software. This means that spammers would have to join the list (and respond to a confirmation email) to be able to use it for onward distribution, so hopefully our spam problem will disappear. We're also hoping that this will solve a problem with some subscribers getting duplicate messages (caused by our firewall somehow).

Changes to subscription information are best done through the mailman webpage at http://www.aps.anl.gov/mailman/listinfo/tech-talk which is linked from the Tech-talk page on the EPICS website. Those of you who are already subscribed will have to request a privacy password from that page by providing your subscription email address before you can make any changes to your subscription.

If you are *not* subscribed and you send a message to tech-talk (or you send from a different email address), you'll find that your messages won't go out to the list subscribers immediately. There are currently two list moderators, one of whom has to approve such off-list messages before they will be forwarded: Ralph Lange and me. If you would like your email address added to the white-list to avoid that moderation step, write to me.

If you have any problems or questions, let me know.
