Judith,

Although I didn't test it, I found autosave in the synApps package.
Not sure what it is worth though.

I personally use sdds tools (sddsLogOnchange, to log/save only when a
change occurs (good for outputs), sddsTimeserieLog log PV at a specific
interval (Good for inputs)). It is also tied to a gnuplot variant so you
can see what happened and when. It does a decent job at correlating
event (visualizing 2 different PVs on a graph)
You can find those tools in the SDDSToolKit and SDDS epics extensions.
Those sdds tools are quite powerful, but the learning curve to make the
most of them is steep. The documentation is quite good though.
It is used by the OAG group at APS (that's where I inherited it from)
You should ask Bob Soliday. Hey, Bob....

Judith, I am also looking for the holy grail... or best epics
backup/correlation tool. I trend to prefer pure opens source tools which
are not solely developed/supported by the epics community.
I would love a plugin to Aida (not sure of the name, but Aida was an
open source tool designed to work with huge data (set like PV backups).
Couldn't find the website).

I am definitely looking forward to what others have to say.
