One can use the PV Gateway application for this. The configuration
file allows for defining a PV name on the server side (the alias)
which corresponds to a different PV on the client side (the real
one). It is possible for the server side and the client side to be
the same subnet, providing a "PV Alias Server". Magically, all
monitors to all fields of a record work as expected. We have used
this in operations while transitioning from one naming convention to
another.
We are also considering building this capability into IOC core ...
sometime.

Hi,
We are currently wondering about the ability of having PV aliases
to help to keep naming coherence as seen from operators even though
developments have been done by different people with different
views, software internals, concepts or architecture etc ...
I looked within the tech-talk that some years ago, there were some
discussions concerning this point. What is the current status now ?
Is it possible to specify aliases to existing PVs ?
If so, how can this be achieved ? If not, are there some workarounds ?
