Problem is, almost no two sites do the same thing.  We have analyzer
sites, pressure sites, elevated storage sites, pumpstation sites,
interconnection valve (called zoning) sites, weather monitoring sites,
streamflow sites,.... the list goes on and on.  We have 35 - 40 or so
different programs, and more than 40 sites (oh, and some sites have more
than one controller, so there are probably more like around 55 total
controllers).  By last count, we had a total of around 7,000 channels
that were going to be coming in to the gateway server (there are 3 of
them) here.

if these IOCs all do more or less the same thing, can't you have one
sub-database (capfast schematic + symbol where I'm at) for each of
the different devices and have all the IOCs use the same set of
device implementations? - in which case parts of the record names
would be predefined.
