Dear Tech-talk,
I am trying to implement the following:
using the MEDM's Shell Command object I would like to "su" into
another account and launch a MEDM screen from there.
The idea is to have a regular detector operator not be able to change
the demand voltage/current. Instead they need to click on the
"configuration" button which will bring up the terminal window and ask
them for the password.
Right now, when I use "su" it has me enter the password in clear text
(i.e. it echo's it) and then fails.
Any thoughts on how to implement this? Should I use a shell script and
call that from MEDM?
I don't know about your environment, but on a Linux-machine with KDE
installed there's always 'kdesu' which is a graphical password-promt and
uses either 'sudo' or 'su' (configurable) to exec a command with another
uid. I suppose, there's something like that in gnome as well - but
frankly, I don't know.
Hope it helps...
