I was also wondering if anyone has had trouble getting the sound to
work when compiling the alarm handler on Linux?
I don't know what distro you're using, but we got tripped up by RHEL
coming out of the box with the X bell (through the PC speaker) disabled.
This affects more than alh of course. It silences anything that is
trying to ring the X bell. The fix (for one session) is:
sudo /sbin/modprobe pcspkr
If that solves your problem, see the modprobe man page about how to make
it persistent for your system.
Thank you,
Patrick
