Hi Dirk,
We have quite a bit of experience with the Newport XPS.
What is your reason for looking for an alternative to the MAXv? Because you want to get away from VME or some other reason?
The XPS has some nice features, and some not so nice features. It depends on what kinds of applications you want to run. It has the ability to do non-linear coordinated motion of all 8 axes. We have EPICS support for that, and it is critical for running our large diffractometers efficiently, i.e. doing on-the-fly scans rather than step scans.

* Galil
* other systems?
Dirk
