dbLoadTemplate allows you to provide fewer pattern-values than pattern-names
and only defines macros for the pattern-values you've given it. This allows
global and command-line settings to provide defaults, although of course you
can only omit values from the end of the list. It also used to silently
accept more pattern-values than pattern-names, but it now prints a warning
message if you do that (and discards them as before).
I don't know whether MSI supports this behaviour or not, but I think we have
to keep it in dbLoadTemplate.
