Just to close this issue, the verdict is in and I am guilty of gross negligence! My Canberra 556 AIM's ethernet address, as printed on the unit, is "781". In my haste to cut-and-paste this and other quantities into the st.cmd file for mcaAIM, I forgot to prepend the "0x" to represent a hexadecimal quantity (e.g. "0x781"). Doing that immediately solved the problem I described here earlier, and led quickly to the identification of the earlier problem. The original problem had to do with the fact that I had added a new NIC to that computer and reconfigured the settings for my home network. System environment variable EPICS_CA_ADDR_LIST remained set to an old invalid address. Setting it to the new address for the card resolved the remaining communications problems. Best regards -Carl
