We have a 64 bit RHEL5 Channel Archiver server to make good use of 26GB RAM for the disk cache (the index is 18GB). We run the 32 bit EPICS binaries, because we aren't moving to a 64 bit build system until RHEL6, and the Channel Archiver itself doesn't use much RAM. We don't have any problems.
