Yes, to get the code in devWatchDoc.c to work the bootloader code must be modified.  The source for the existing code is not available.

The best suggestion I can think of would be to start from some existing open source bootloader code such as "My Right Boot": uClinux -- Embedded Linux/Microcontroller Project -- ColdFire: Boot Loaders
