I don't know how much this is relevant to the EDM but for medm on fedora I
install these two packages which most likely are part of the rpmfusion
repository.
xorg-x11-fonts-misc
knm-new-fixed-fonts
Append the contents of
$EPICS_BASE/extensions/src/medm/medm/fonts.alias.sun
to the fonts.alias which up to Fedora 15 and most of the RedHat based Linux
distributions is located in
/usr/share/X11/fonts/misc/
$cat
$EPICS_BASE/extensions/src/medm/medm/fonts.alias.sun>>/usr/share/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.alias
Then restart the font server
$/etc/init.d/xfs restart
