Hello:

The EDL to OPI converter is very simplistic.
It only converts labels, textupdates and rectangles.

We started the framework for the converter, but very few widgets and properties are actually converted.

At the SNS, we currently have no urgent need to invest time into this.

It's also quite unclear how to convert many details.

We have tons of EDM screens where "rectangles" are placed around a bunch of widgets with a Label on top.
Those should really be converted into a Grouping Container:
It marks the meaning of that line around stuff, it allows move, resize, other edit operations on the group.

We also have quite a few EDM screens with invisible buttons behind rectangles with conditional visibility, talking to local PVs that control the content of embedded windows.
Those should really be converted into a Tab Container, because again that's what you wanted to create in the first place.

There are more examples for EDM display files being a bit like compiled code, and it's hard for an automated tool to reconstruct what was originally meant:
Circle that happens to change color, or 'LED' - type indicator?

Nevertheless, if there is a site with some programming resources who has a need to convert EDM screens and wants to work on this, we're happy to guide you through the existing converter framework so that you can add the code for more widgets and their properties.

Thanks,
Kay

Subject: Re: CSS BOY EDL --> OPI

I have had some problems with converting EDLs to OPI as well (CSS 3.0.1).
I get no error messages, however. When I open the resulting opi file, it contains merely 5% of the original edl file.
May I ask anyone to convert a sample edl file for me (which I will send to them later) and confirm/disprove my assumptions?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I am using CSS BOY (Css 3.1.0.20120201 org.csstudio.basic.epics.product.product) for the first time with some success.

However I have had no luck with converting EDL to OPI.

Pasted below is the error I am getting. Is there any way to get a more detailed problem description?

Thanks,
