Hmm…..

that's certainly different than what I'm seeing.

I have a three-button mouse with X11 preferences as shown

If I center click and release I see the PV name pop up briefly then disappear.   If I then go to another window and hit  ⌘-V I don't get the PV name.     This behaviour is the same whether or not I press the option button.

If after center clicking and releasing (and seeing the PV name pop up briefly then disappear) I then hit ⌘-C it appears the the copy to the pasteboard does occur.   I can then go to another window and hit  ⌘-V and see the PV name pasted.
