The problem is in configure/os/CONFIG.Common.UnixCommon.

instead of
SHRLIB_SUFFIX = $(SHRLIB_SUFFIX_BASE).$(SHRLIB_VERSION)
which generates .so. when SHRLIB_VERSION is empty
better use
SHRLIB_SUFFIX = $(SHRLIB_SUFFIX_BASE)$(addprefix .,$(SHRLIB_VERSION))

The same for LOADABLE_SHRLIB_SUFFIX
