Gangesh,

You may check the document "Troubleshooting EPICS V4" [1] for help. That document
attempts to predict some potential problems a user might have, and offer guidelines
for avoidance. It includes a number of possible causes of "client can't connect to server".

There is a 5th cause not listed too: I think pvAccess of beta 2.0 required at least 1 networking
interface to be set up (that's right isn't it *Matej*?). That means, for instance,
running your server and client on the same host, where that host is not connected to any
network (like you're working on a laptop on a plane without wifi), results in failure
to connect.

Please let us know on <epics-pvdata-devel@lists.sourceforge.net<mailto:epics-pvdata-devel@lists.sourceforge.net>> if you still have issues.

Cheers
Greg

Some installations have firewalls (iptables) configured so that they do not allow UDP broadcasts/search.
Just for sake of a quick test, do (as root)

iptables --flush

and try then.

Ganesh, if you want to email tech-talk the real list address is tech-talk@
not tech-talk-bounces@ — the later is an internal address used by the mailman
software to detect undeliverable messages. Please correct your address book
entry.

Subject: EPICSv4 gettingStarted
Hello All,

I am trying to install EPICSv4-Java-2.0-BETA by following the steps at http://epics-pvdata.sourceforge.net/gettingStarted.html

But is could not locate the directory for step no. 4.1 : EPICSv4-Java-2.0-BETA/common/source/pvCommon_setup.bash
How to proceed this step??
4. Modify helloWorld_setup.bash

 1. Set your location of pvCommon_setup.bash, e.g.: source $HOME/Development/epicsV4/releasetest/EPICSv4-Java-2.0-BETA/common/source/pvCommon_setup.bas

Also I able to install the setup by escaping this step. but got and error during running the last step no. 7. :
Acquisition of greeting was not successful, failed to connect: ChannelRPC never connected.

Snap of command prompt is as follows
[prasad@01HW341662 helloWorld]$ ./helloServerRunner
pvAccess Server v1.2-SNAPSHOT
CLASS : org.epics.pvaccess.server.impl.remote.ServerContextImpl
VERSION : pvAccess Server v1.2-SNAPSHOT

^C[prasad@01HW341662 helloWorld]./helloClientRunner Stefania
Acquisition of greeting was not successful, failed to connect: ChannelRPC never connected.
[prasad@01HW341662 helloWorld]$

Kindly help me here.
I am feeling these steps at (http://epics-pvdata.sourceforge.net/gettingStarted.html) are not updated for this version. But I am not sure.

Thank you

Regards
Ganesh
