The ALH indeed works well.
But I am not sure this is the most reliable solution for 3 reasons. 1/ The ALH runs on the client PC 2/ The ALH runs on PC hardware. 3/ The ALH can be turned off by operators. (speakers can simply be turned off to make the alarm system fail) To solve this without the ALH, you need to run a back-end service (i.e. on the server side) that filters and dispatches the alarms to dedicated hardware. This is already implemented in BEAST, the CSS alarm handler.
