I just tried building this on ubuntu 14.04 and got it to build by changing the default values for MOTIF_LIB and X11_LIB. Try building it with:

make MOTIF_LIB=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu X11_LIB=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu

i dont really know what to do here,
