Subject: EDM Auto-Inc?

One of the middle-click items in edm says "Set Auto-Inc Value". It pops up a dialog with a box labeled "Index Value". What does this do? Is it documented somewhere? I've searched on line and in the documentation that edm comes with, and haven't found anything about it.
