I have used the NI EPICS Client I/O Server on sbRIO-9606 which runs an image built using the LabVIEW RT (and FPGA) add-ons.   I've used it in production for several years so it works but is not a genuine CA server and has limitations and bugs.   I have the feeling they contracted the software years ago and don't have a big enough user base to warrant further investment.

If you’re able to get network shared variables set up on the cRIO then one of my colleagues has written an interface that will provide a more complete IOC than their I/O Server does (https://github.com/ISISComputingGroup/EPICS-NetShrVar) That module certainly works well with a PXI system that has been used on experiments run here.

Hi Florian:

If you need help with IRIO, do not hesitate to contact with me.

You can find more details of IRIO software in this link (https://github.com/irio-i2a2).

Cheers, Mariano

Hey Ralph,

thanks for your reply. I will have a look into the IRIO and EtherCAT modules and discuss it with our target group.

Cheers,

Florian

Did you have a look at the IRIO support?

That's a Device Support, so you have an IOC database on top that behaves as such.

My experiences with NI's implementation of their interpretation of the CA protocol are mixed. It's basically working, but it's not acting in the same way as an IOC. (I have never seen it run on cRIO, though.)

Other than that, EtherCAT seems to be a nice way to integrate cRIO, and there is EtherCAT Device Support.

Dear all,

for the Detector Control System of the PANDA Experiment we are using
EPICS as control software. Only our target system group has implemented
their control system for the prototype using a CompactRIO from National
Instruments.

I have seen, that NI provides a so called EPICS Server I/O Servers
plugin which, as far as I understood, can be used on the CompactRIO
system to publish shared variables as PVs to EPICS CA Clients.

I'd like to know if anyone has experience using the CompactRIO with EPICS?

Does the plugin support fields like HIHI, HHSV, ADEL, MDEL?

Best reagrds,

Florian
