If you’re able to get network shared variables set up on the cRIO then one of my colleagues has written an interface that will provide a more complete IOC than their I/O Server does (https://github.com/ISISComputingGroup/EPICS-NetShrVar) That module certainly works well with a PXI system that has been used on experiments run here.

That's a Device Support, so you have an IOC database on top that behaves as such.

 

My experiences with NI's implementation of their interpretation of the CA protocol are mixed. It's basically working, but it's not acting in the same way as an IOC. (I have never seen it run on cRIO, though.)

 

Other than that, EtherCAT seems to be a nice way to integrate cRIO, and there is EtherCAT Device Support.
