Hi Joerg,

We are here using PROFINET with MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol) ring to connect Siemens S7-1500 PLCs with multiple ET200S (distributed Inputs/outputs) for the SPIRAL2/DESIR beamlines and setup developments.

These PLCs are used for Vacuum, Interlocks, Insertion devices (FCup, BPM), Slits Motorization, ...

This MRP ring with Profinet protocol is a "field bus" only used for the PLC : The PLC CPU manage itself this MRP Ring.

It is completely EPICS independent and uses the two Ethernet CPU Ports.

An additional Communication module (CM1542-1) is used with S7-1500 to allow the Ethernet Network connection of each PLC with EPICS IOCs (using MODBUS-TCP) and HMI on Touch-Pannel located closed to the PLC.

Kind Regards,

Laurent.

Hi,

does somebody make use of PROFINET on EPICS?

We found this paper focusing on redundancy with PROFINET:
  https://accelconf.web.cern.ch/AccelConf/ICALEPCS2015/papers/wepgf020.pdf

Are there other approaches?

Thanks!

Best regards,
