This might be true as long as we are talking about the defaults.
However, using the --coresize=<size> argument you can specify a maximum
size of the core file. A core file will only be written if smaller than
this size. Setting this to 0 turns off writing core files.

P.S.: On my machine the IOC process seems to ignore signal 3. "kill -11"
works, though.
