Yeah, when you rant you always seem to beat up on the wrong people.
Of course 
   pvput test:rect height.value=33
is perfect. Being still an EPICS3 guy I had assumed
   pvput test:rect height=33
would pick the value by default.

Unfortunately pvput -h gave examples which did not work.

I'll address this piece first, and leave the rest until my desire to counter-rant has faded.  I'm not unhappy with you (Rolf), but rather with the "community", and  the difficultly of getting the (to me) all important user feedback during the development cycle of a module, as opposed to 3 years later after multiple releases.

This issue has been fixed, but not released.
