Bob,
In these pandemic-crazed times it's good that you remind us of the good that has, and continues to take hold, about the fruits of your et al. collaboration.

For a mid-sized experiment as we had at Princeton,  the collaboration was immensely beneficial.  Our controls staff was light, but with the invaluable guidance of dedicated EPICS developers we were able to build, configure,  and operate our control system. The collaboration meetings that I first attended were smaller and feisty; the Gurd's were courageous enough to welcome all to their home for socializing and cheer!  The leaders'  passion for success-by-all was inspiring.

Best regards,
-ps

Hi All,
As older people are apt to do,I reminisce. I reflect on the origins of EPICS. If you are interested, this paper was written by those of our colleagues that created the environment for a collaboration. Mike Thuot (LANL), Marty Knott (ANL), Dave Gurd (SSC) and Steve Lewis (LBL), supported and promoted the radical idea of committing to the needs of each other's project requirements and schedules. https://epics.anl.gov/EpicsDocumentation/EpicsGeneral/epics_success.html
The guidance, support and camaraderie of our colleagues and friends created the tone of this collaboration.
Two of these outstanding individuals have since passed: Steve Lewis 2008 and Marty Knott 2020. Adieu"
