Hi,

Today the same script failed again. I didn’t see this coming, but Andrew’s comment to try more recent EPICS base actually helped. I’ve made sure to be able to reproduce the problem several times before trying pvget from EPICS 7.0.4.1 - remember, the same script runs fine several times and the randomly stops working, but then once I’m able to get it going once, it will continue to run fine afterwards.

After several attempts with pvget from 4.5 linked against CA from 3.14.12.6, the ’new’ pvget worked out of the box. I’m not sure whether that brings any more information or interest to the subject, since whatever the issue was seems to be solved in latest base. Thank you all for your replies and ideas.

We have fixed some issues in the CA client library since then, although not a huge number, and some problems in the PVA CA Provider interface as well which could be causing this. Thus you’re more likely to get interest from the core developers in helping to resolve the problem if you could use a {ca,pv}get tool from a much more recent EPICS release and demonstrate that the problem still exists (or even better, find that it goes away).
