Ok it indeed works. Im quite happy with the result.
I now have a follow up question:
If I compress the Image with say, JPEG,
1. what is the output PV of Codec1 ? If I try to pipe the JPEG
data from CODEC1 to image1, I get a segmenation fault.
2. can phoebus somehow read compressed images?
Im asking because streaming the image in raw requires ~300Mbit/s which a Raspberry Pi does not deliver (max 100Mbit)

I've found the following repo from the manufacturer:

with this, its possible to get the camera recognised as a UVC device which in return should then work with the ADUVC module.
I'll try that, but I agree that it might be better to buy FLIR cameras in the future.

I don't think that should be an issue. The performance specifications on their Web site are just the maximum frame rate that the cameras support. But you can control the frame rate to be the same or slower than your existing USB 2.0 camera, so the performance requirements are the same. In my experience you can even run their USB 3.0 cameras on a USB 2.0 port, and are just limited in the maximum frame rate.

Yes, they are all GenICam compliant and can be used with either the ADAravis (Linux) or ADSpinnaker (Linux and Windows) drivers in areaDetector. I would suggest the Blackfly S models, which are available in both USB 3.0 and GigE versions.

Do you already have this camera, and if so it there any reason it could not be replaced with another one? You could replace it for less than $400 with a much better performance FLIR camera. That is much less than the cost of writing an EPICS driver for an unsupported camera.
