I think the performance requirements for a Blackfly S are too high for a simple Raspberry Pi 3? are there any slow, standard cameras that could work with EPICS?

are all products from FLIR supportedYes, they are all GenICam compliant and can be used with either the ADAravis (Linux) or ADSpinnaker (Linux and Windows) drivers in areaDetector. I would suggest the Blackfly S models, which are available in both USB 3.0 and GigE versions. If it were then you could use ADAravis on Linux. It appears that their software library only works on Windows. Do you already have this camera, and if so it there any reason it could not be replaced with another one? You could replace it for less than $400 with a much better performance FLIR camera. That is much less than the cost of writing an EPICS driver for an unsupported camera.
