Hi Tom,

As Tynan mentioned, we tried to evaluate the FRIB software according to their paper, but we could not succeed in getting their software. And their software architecture requires a specific CI/CD model, which we don't want to use. Thus, ALS developed  its own solution with minimal effort. Our CF service is limited and is a sort of "static" configuration. But as Tynan's explained before, it works as well.

After my current project, ALS-U will pass CD-3, and we will work more actively with Tynan (ALS) to improve the system slowly.

Best,
Han

Hi Tom,

We just commissioned an archiver appliance instance at ALS this spring and followed the INFO tag approach outlined from a paper from FRIB (https://accelconf.web.cern.ch/icalepcs2019/papers/wepha095.pdf)

A colleague here wrote a python program that gets the archive info tags from channel finder and pushes the PVs into the appliance. It works really well. Since we just started we haven't finalized support for modifying or deleting PVs from the archiver but we hope to get that working too. Another nice thing is in CSS Phoebus users can right click and see the archiving policy for a PV and other channel finder clients can get that information too.

We also have gotten requests to show archived data on opi/bob screens from users but I don't know of anything like that personally.

Hi all,

We're considering how to do archiving in the future and would like to see what others are doing. We have a couple of goals we would like to achieve:
  1. Automatically archive all the scalar PVs that appear on a screen
  2. Have a "time travelling" view for our OPI screens that allow us to step back in time and view historical data instead of live PVs
It occurred to us that 1. could be achieved by adding info tags to any records that would appear on a screen, then something in the reccaster/recreceiver/channelfinder stack could update the archiver appliance. Has anyone done this or something similar that updates the archiver appliance automatically when an IOC boots?

We also wondered if anyone had implemented something like 2. for any display manager?

Thanks,
Tom
