Hi Niko,

I’m a bit split in between. I personally don’t like the way ubuntu tricks you into installing snap packages though dark patterns. I was very much in favor until they started creating this walled garden resource hog. Maybe I’m just old-fashioned 😊 There are likely better Debian based distros which don’t have this problem and good community support. Rocky and Alma both seem good alternatives to RHEL, but I’m a bit worried about long-term feasibility of these distros.

We are in the process of migrating to Debian for IOC hosts.

I'd not use anything RedHat based, mostly due to the drama caused by said company in the last few months.

Hey Vincent,

for the PANDA detector control we are using Debian and AlmaLinux.
I never had any issues running EPICS IOCs on either OS.
