Hi Heinz,

If a device speaks both Modbus and ASCII then often there is something you need to do to tell it which protocol to use.  It probably does not "autosense" from the data you send it.

Modbus is a popular protocol, and is quite easy to use with EPICS.  I have written a driver for it here:

Hi Techies,

We are trying to commission an Edwards scroll pump nXDS 10i with streamdevice via serial communication and streamdevice.
We have a protocol description with serial 9600 baud and Ascii communication like "?V808\cr”

But unfortunately with these settings nothing happens on the link.

There is a Windows-Programm whitch runs with 38400 baud and binary communication protocol ( named Modbus?).
This works.

Does anyone have such a pump in operation? 
Are there different protocol variants? 
Do we have the wrong documentation?
