It's a design thing and needs to be looked at for every use case. I would always argue that "offline on purpose" is a temporary interpretation of an alarm, and that kind of silencing should be done in the alarm handling system, not in the low-level I&C. Value alarm levels that depend on the mode of operation are definitely closer to the system and probably better handled in the database. A soft database that combines and pre-processes values/alarms is often a good idea and sometimes you can't even do without. (E.g., "the sum of power generated by our 12 RF units must be between X and Y.", which is an error on a group of devices.) Cheers, ~Ralph
