But, the same Wikipedia article says further down (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dash#En_dash_versus_em_dash) that the "spaced en dash" is recommended by a number of style guides as an visually more pleasing replacement for the em dash (which is typically not surrounded by spaces).
The traditional US way is the unspaced em dash (that I personally always consider very strange when reading books printed in the US), while the British style guides and publishers favour the spaced en dash.
Boils down to: how British are you? ;-)
As always in these fuzzy questions: pick a style, and use it consistently.
