s/motivation/reason/.
Probably due to incompetence on my part. I wanted to generate the
base.dbd file from the Makefile (since we were already making the
softIoc.dbd file using a suitable mechanism). Installing the expanded
version is definitely wrong though as it prevents IOC applications from
overriding the menuConvert.dbd and menuScan.dbd files.
At some point we changed the build rules that once generated the
intermediate *Include.dbd file so now they directly pass the list from
the base_DBD variable to dbdExpand.pl. My original desire to generate
the base.dbd file isn't going to work with those new rules anyway, so I
need to put back the base.dbd source file.
Even doing that it's still currently getting expanded, so I'll need to
take a closer look at this. I will probably merge Janet's dbdcat branch
first as there may be a subtle relationship with that.
I should have time to start merging branches this week, the big
time-sink of preparing a new EPICS Intro talk is now done and I don't
have to give any more training lectures here until the week before the
Saclay meeting.
