Hi Han,

You don't need strong IT support to run a tool like LogStash. I promised
to document how to set it up for EPICS logging. I hope I'll find some
time to work on this soon. My draft will go here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cgMWBA_fF3vrxru5N-NOU1_kNTr-sKLpKsUPO0Dxnz0/edit?usp=sharing

When I'm done this will be moved to the official EPICS website.

I thought so, too. But a recent look at the code convinced me that using
iocLogserver is not a good idea. It's code base hasn't been maintained
for many years and has all kinds of limitations/issues. Nobody knows if
it behaves correctly in corner cases like "out of disk space", log file
size >2 GB,... Even straight forward cases like not limiting file size
didn't work as documented [1]. It would need a major overhaul (as in
rewrite from scratch). Considering the availability of more powerful and
reliable log server tools we decided to retire it in the near future.
See [1] for details.

The port issue will still remain though. At FRIB we are using port 7004
as the default. We are also running multiple log servers (for putlogging
etc.) which would be on port 7005, 7006,...
