This is unfortunately still common.  I have a gmail filter to not
spam/ his address which mostly works.  Still, being labeled as spam
is actually an improvement.  For a while gmail was unconditionally
discarded these after anl.gov (along with most .gov mail servers)
changed their DMARC policy.
