Hello to EPICS community,
I thought it will be an appropriate time to remind you about the simple
method of accessing password protected EPICS.
1. Consult the Contact Person list in the EPICS Software Distribution
at APS to make sure that nobody else from your organization already
has the password. Everybody on that list is the official keeper of
the password for their organization/project. They are also responsible for
making sure that it is given to authorized users of EPICS. If there
is an existing contact person for your organization, get the password
from him/her.
2. If the name of your org./project is not on the list and you are sure
that you are going to be responsible for EPICS development at your
organization for a reasonable length of time (yes, I got a request
from somebody who was leaving the organization next week!), check
if your organization signed the EPICS agreement.
3. Once you are some what sure that conditions in step 2 are met, please
send me an e-mail with the following information:
Your name
Your institution's full name
Your institutional postal address (not home addresses or e-mail addresses)
Your business telephone number
Your preferred e-mail address
It is nice to have the following optional items:
Fax number
URL of the page where your EPICS related project description is kept
URL of the page where you keep custom EPICs development for your site
If you are not sure, contact Bob Dalesio or Mike Thouot at LANL.
4. We, Karen Collier(LANL) and myself, will take care of the rest. You will get a password within a couple of days, and if you are lucky, may be within a
couple of hours. In case everybody forgot about the password, please
send me an e-mail and I will reset the password. Also, make sure that
your name is correctly included in the contact list
Please use the EPICS Software Distribution page only to access most up-to-date
version of software. Using various ftp site may work, but we cannot promise
anything.
Again, I request you to send me links to any EPICS related software development
that you have done at your site. Sharing it with rest of the ever growing
EPICS community will surely benefit the collaboration.
Regards.
Bakul Banerjee
