gdct lives!
As part of the SNS project we wanted to be able to build gdct on Linux.
The main difficulty with building gdct is building the interviews and
unidraw libraries on which it depends. In the past we have used an
interviews version called "iv-epics" which was set up by Jim Kowalkowski
some time ago. We became aware of a a currently-maintained open-source
package which provides the required libraries, ivtools from source
forge.
We now have versions of ivtools and gdct in our SNS CVS repository which
allow gdct to be built on solaris and linux (red hat 7.0). The ivtools
makefiles have been changed somewhat from the source forge version,
mainly because only a fraction of the package needs to be built to
support gdct. Two modifications in the interviews library code were
required; these have not been fed back to source forge. A modification
to gdct to eliminate a newly-apparent name conflict was required; this
has not been fed back to the APS repository.
Use of ivtools fixes a long-standing bug in editing text fields under
gdct. Both statically-linked and dynamically-linked versions have been
built for solaris and linux. Anyone who is interested should contact me
or Ernest Williams.
