Hi Ron,
We are running most of the EPICS tools native on both RH 7.0 and RH 7.1.
I am also able to remotely DISPLAY EPICS tools from Solaris.
I think you need to define an external color map
The following is takenn from Chapter 9 in the DM manual at LANL:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------
DM runs on the X Windows interface to UNIX. Each display brought up on DM
has its own window. You can open up to 20 DM displays on a workstation
without any performance degradation. Whether or not more displays cause any
degradation depends on your workstation.
Only displays created with an EDD/DM version prior to 2.2 and that don't
reference a common external color palette file might have problems
allocating colors. When there is such a problem, a display may fail to load
or it may fail to display its colors properly. There may also be such a
problem if displays created with version 2.3 or later use a lot of blinking
colors, because blinking colors are always allocated, regardless of version
(a lot of blinking colors would have to be used to cause this problem).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Subject: DM/EDD and Redhat Linux
We're just starting to look at Linux. One of the first things we've done is
just set DISPLAY to the linux box and try the various tools from Solaris.
StripTool, DM2K, GDCT work fine.
Both DM and EDD fail to start, complaining that they can't allocate blinking
colors. I haven't seen this before, even on other systems which don't
display blinking colors.
Is there some magic incantation involved here?
Thanks.
