I'm not speaking from any experience here, but I see no reason to doubt
the accuracy of that statement - the performance of almost all VME I/O
operations is going to be limited by the requirements of the VMEbus
specification nowadays, not by the design of the interface chips, which
are so much faster than in the early days of the VMEbus. Both the
Universe and Tempe chips were designed by Tundra, so I doubt there's any
chance the Tempe would be slower.
