A successfully home search is not the only way to establish an absolute reference position. On a separate note, for some time I have been thinking whether the motor record should disable soft limit checks whilst homing. The argument being that soft limits are meaningless when you don't know your absolute position, and usually the reason you home is that you don't know your absolute position. Users who "set" the absolute position of their motors are defining an absolute reference position that is meaningfully to their application. Users who want/need to do unconditional home search operations can accomplish that at a higher level than the motor record by temporarily disabling soft limit checks (DHLM = DLLM = 0) before initiating a home search.
